Hamburg
Places of InterestHarbor TourA very special highlight of a visit to Hamburg is an extended harbor tour which departs from the Landungsbrücken (landing bridges). On the trip itself the captain imparts a lot of very interesting and historical information about the Port of Hamburg, the 2nd largest port in Europe. Museum ShipsWhether you are visiting the sailing ship Rickmer Rickmers, the former cargo freighter Cap San Diego or the lightship, there is a great deal to discover on all the museum ships. Alster TourThe nicest and easiest way to explore the Alster is on an Alster tour by Alster steamer. The tour also takes you along the numerous canals where you can admire the splendid villas from the shores of their backyard gardens. If you prefer to be on dry land, you can take a city tour instead. Jungfernstieg & ShoppingThe Jungfernstieg on the Alster has long been Hamburg's pedestrian shopping street. Nowadays it's all about shopping in big department stores (Hamburger Hof, Alsterhaus), galleries (Europa Passage) and exquisite shops and boutiques, which can all be found here. There’s nothing you can’t buy in the downtown area, no matter whether you prefer to indulge your personal shopping urge in chic little boutiques, shiny shopping malls or superlative department stores. Culture in the form of impressive office buildings causes you to marvel on almost every corner. Visit the shopping‑jewel and largest shopping center in Hamburg's city center, the new Europa‑Passage and stroll along the Alsterarkaden to the Town Hall. Reeperbahn & St. PauliThere is much more to St. Pauli and the Reeperbahn than strip shows and sex shops. It is a melting pot of diverse influences, trends and styles, bars, clubs and restaurants, musical theaters and comedy clubs. HafenCityA "city" is being created in HafenCity (harbor city), in the real sense of the word. As well as workplaces, shops, open spaces, cultural and tourist attractions, it is HafenCity as a place to live that is taking a focal role ‑ 12,000 people will be living in HafenCity by 2025. Covering over 155 hectares HafenCity is the largest inner‑city development project in Europe, comprising a mix of apartments, offices, stores and restaurants on the waterfront. Add in the cruise ship terminal and the harbor waterside changes from month to month. Elbphilharmonie HamburgThe Philharmonic Hall, currently under construction directly on the banks of the river Elbe, is set to become one of the world's top concert halls, a global hub for the music industry and a destination in itself with a plaza, a hotel, apartments and parking. It is already regarded as Hamburg's new signature landmark and in future this stunning piece of architecture will attract the world's top classical musicians. |
