General Information
Port of Hamburg

Every year about 13,000 sea‑going vessels from all over the world enter the second‑biggest European port. With a barge tour or a visit to one of the legendary museum ships visitors can experience directly why Hamburg is also called "The Gateway to the World".

Around the Alster

Dating from the 13th century and fed by the river Alster and its tributary rivers, the inner city lake “Alster” is a popular meeting point for recreation and jogging. The Hanseatic citizens like to enjoy their oasis with an "Alsterwasser", a beer with lemonade, which is very refreshing on a hot summer's day.

Culture ‑ Arts/Theater/Museums

From “Plattdüütsch” (local slang) to John Neumeier's ballet, you'll find just about everything on Hamburg's stages. In addition to three state theaters a total of 313 theaters, concert halls and cabaret venues entice audiences with a colorful cultural offering. In Hamburg you can enjoy the musical Tarzan, The Lion King and lots more. In July 2007 a new tourist attraction opened in Hamburg, called "Port of Dreams – BallinStadt Emigrant's World". Located on the historical place of the former "emigrant's city", opened in 1901, visitors will experience a truly unique ensemble, offering a new and innovative angle on transatlantic migration history.
