According to 2006 ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) stats, Berlin is one of the Top Five convention cities in the world for the third year in a row. The Top Five cities are Vienna, Paris, Singapore, Barcelona and Berlin.
London is really gearing up for the Olympics. Visit Britain hired famed ad agency, Team Saatchi to review its brand image. London Heathrow Airport is building new terminals and renovating the old ones. By the time of the Olympics in 2012, most of the passengers traveling through LHR will be going through terminals that are not even open today because all the terminals will have been newly built, rebuilt or redeveloped.
Correction from the March/April edition:
We incorrectly reported that the Messe Frankfurt’s congress and conference center was given a new name, Congress Frankfurt. The congress and conference center does not have a new name. The term Congress Frankfurt refers to the congress business at the Messe.

The correct web address is http://www.messefrankfurt.com

In the Air

 London Heathrow

Presently, the UK tourist industry is worth £60 billion a year. A lot of that figure depends upon the gateways that bring travelers into the country. As the country’s principal gateway, London Heathrow plays a big part in this equation.
Demand for air travel in the southeast of the UK is expected to double in the next 20 years and 160 million people could be traveling through London’s airports by 2010 with up to 90 million using Heathrow.
What is London Heathrow Doing? A new terminal, T5, is being built and the existing terminals are being renovated, redesigned and refitted.
Here’s a timeline of what to expect at LHR.
2007 - Completion of the first phase of a major upgrade of Terminal 3, with a £1 billion upgrade of the entire terminal is planned over the next ten years. Virgin Atlantic is planning Drive Thru Check In for its Upper Class passengers and also a new Check In area that will be wider, brighter and more spacious. This area will include have new Online Check In and Kiosk Check In by the end of 2008.
2008 - The new Terminal 5 (T5), the first major new terminal at LHR in over 20 years, will open.
2009 - Refurbishment of Terminal 4, which includes increasing the amount of natural light in the building and improving check-in areas and baggage facilities, will be complete.
2010 - T5’s second satellite building opens.
2012 -  Phase 1 of Heathrow East, a new terminal that is replacing the present Terminals 1 & 2, opens in time for the Olympics in 2012.

 Virgin Nairobi

Virgin Atlantic increased its Nairobi service to daily. The equipment used on the route is an Airbus A340-300 aircraft. But this is just the beginning of Virgin’s Nairobi story. Virgin is an active partner in the community helping to improve the lives of the local people in the Kenyan community. Virgin raised £155,000 to buy motorcycles for the Riders for Health project where healthcare workers use the motorcycles to help bring much needed medical support to small villages and communities in Kenya and throughout Africa. The money was raised from Virgin Atlantic’s onboard charity appeal and by Virgin staff’s participation in a range of fundraising events over the past year.
As a result of these good works, Sir Richard Branson received a great honor from the Masai tribe. At a traditional ceremony held in the Masai Mara in Kenya, Branson was made a tribal elder. The Masai tribe awarded this honor on Sir Richard in return for his bringing prosperity to the land. It is very rare for anyone who is not a Masai to be bestowed with the honor of becoming an Elder.
