Dubrovnik: Pearl Of The Adriatic Sea

DubrovnikTo many, Dubrovnik is the synonym for Croatia, the city on the UNESCO list of world heritage which is rarely missed by those who travel to this country and who seek true beauty. Dubrovnik is a medieval town, unique not only within the confines of the Adriatic. There, every street and every part of the walls that encircle it, tell a story. Although there are traces of habitation dating back to prehistoric times, it is believed that Dubrovnik as we know it was founded in the 7th century. For five centuries Dubrovnik was under the administrative sway of the Byzantine Empire. Its glorious days of independence as the famous “Republic of Dubrovnik” lasted from 1358 to 1808. Standing on the massive walls that embrace the entire city, a visitor’s attraction of prime importance and fully accessible, one can enjoy a truly singular view of the town. Each house in the Old Town is a historical monument and that is why we make mention here of only a few - the Sponza Palace, the Pillar of Orlando, the Ducal Palace and the Baroque church of St. Blasius - patron saint of Dubrovnik. There are also many other prominent buildings that bear witness to the city's glorious history. Dubrovnik is an exceptional city and a highly regarded incentive, meeting and congress venue.

Istria: History Meets Beauty

RovinjSituated in the western part of Croatia, the Istrian peninsula has always been very special. The same can be said for the region of Istria which comprises only of a single county, the County of Istria. It is without question the primary region of Croatia for visitors. Its unique qualities lie in its location - sitting where the Mediterranean Sea penetrates deepest into the European mainland. That is why, despite its greatly predominant Croatian population, Istria was under foreign rule from 7th century right up until some 60 years ago. Its singular position and the blend of various influences have resulted in a special culture and landscape, music and gastronomy, all of which are the reason why Istria is lovingly known as the “Land of Magic”.
Istria’s culture and the beauty of its heritage can be seen across the width and breadth of this magical peninsula, but perhaps mostly in Rovinj. The panorama of Rovinj, together with the church of St Euphemia and its bell tower, is one of the most striking symbols of Istria. The attraction of Rovinj has long since had an irresistible pull on numerous artists inspired by its lovely vistas, the narrow and exceptionally picturesque streets as well as the preserved old town houses.
